Charles (Charlie) Field Nichols, age 90, died peacefully October 27, 2015. Charlie was born in Griffin, GA on February 18, 1925 to the late Jonathan Prothro and Angie Field Nichols. He grew up in Bradenton, FL where he graduated from Manatee High School. He served in WWII in the US Army 109th Military Government Group in the occupation of Japan. Charlie graduated from University of Florida where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation, Charlie accepted a position with Southern Bell and retired as District Manager after 35 years. He was a devoted father and husband and will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Constance (Connie), a daughter Tina Nichols Haas (Len Al) and granddaughters Lillian and Olivia Haas, brothers-in-law, Cornelius and Kenneth Laube (Betty) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his sister, Angie Nichols Day, and brothers, JP Nichols III and Henry Heard Nichols. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7, at 2 p.m. at Oglethorpe Hill Chapel with a reception following the service. Charlie will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Georgia National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Atlanta Humane Society. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Brookhaven, Georgia, 30319.
